Starting with the macramé technique, an ancient technique that uses sailor's knots to create both utilitarian and decorative pieces.
I intend to teach this technique and the different ways it can be used, particularly for decorative pieces such as wall panels, pot holders, plant nests, candle holders, mandalas, Christmas tree decorations, or utilitarian pieces such as key rings, coasters, earrings, necklaces, etc.
I intend to create 3 macramé pieces with the participants to be sold in the shop, online or at events. Each participant will, with my guidance, create one or two key ring models to be put on sale, a vase holder model for the same purpose, and a small wall panel that will combine the macramé and weaving technique. By making this last piece, each participant will have the knowledge to make bespoke pieces for a client in the future, i.e. clients will be able to order bespoke pieces from the shop, with specific dimensions and measurements, colours and textures to their liking. This will make it possible to create larger pieces, with budgets based on the characteristics of the piece ordered, which will generate more revenue as it will be a personalised service.
This creative process will involve making a sketch of each piece, choosing materials, colours and textures, discussing the techniques used to make each piece, and then executing them.
The design of each piece will depend entirely on the imagination and creative process of each participant, who will use the possibilities of the macramé technique to create a unique piece: key holder, vase holder and wall panel.

Rita Gascão Nunes was born in Lisbon, where she graduated in Law, but quickly realised that this was not her vocation, as the world of the arts had always aroused her curiosity. As a child, her grandmother taught her to embroider, knit, crochet and weave, and her passion for textiles began there.
Later, as a resident of Minde, she came into contact with the woollen textile industry and the manual weaving of Mantas de Minde, which gave rise to her interest and passion for yarn and textile art. Since 2014 she has attended courses and workshops in macramé, weaving, Smyrna, punch needle, embroidery and felting, and has been experimenting with new techniques and materials in order to create pieces with her own identity. More recently, she took part in the tufting workshop as part of the European OPEN UP project, which took place at the New Hand Lab in Covilhã.
In October 2022, she exhibited in a group show at the New Hand Lab, as a result of her participation in the European project, OPEN UP.
From July to October 2023, he exhibited at MIAT - Museu Industrial e Artesanal Têxtil, in Mira de Aire.
She is currently exploring the Arraiolos technique, mixing it with other techniques and materials in order to create and innovate in the pieces she creates.
As a result of this journey, in 2018 she created the Rita na Lua brand, a name that expresses her creativity and constant dissatisfaction, always seeking to innovate, create and make. The artist works with interior designers and decoration shops where she sells her pieces.
